Some products have a solid, pasty or butter-like texture. For ease of use, gentle heating is recommended, depending on the type of consistency:
- For frozen or hard products, gentle heating in a bain-marie, placing the container in a temperate environment (such as near a source of gentle heat) or holding it between the hands to take advantage of body heat can help liquefy or soften it.
- For products that are pasty or difficult to handle at room temperature, you can either heat them slightly (e.g. in a bain-marie or dry oven) or use them directly with suitable utensils, such as spatulas.
Avoid exposing the product to high temperatures (not exceeding 40°C) to preserve all its natural properties. Once heated or prepared, use clean utensils to transfer or apply the product.
Examples: some vegetable oils freeze below ~24°C, such as coconut oil, shea butter, Tahitian monoi, iris butter (essential oil) and most absolutes.
