Description

This absolute is derived from asparagus branches harvested in the Landes region. A local agricultural co-product bearing the PGI “Asperges des sables des Landes,” this raw material is upcycled through a two-step process: solvent extraction of the dried branches, followed by ethanol purification to obtain a refined absolute. Each batch undergoes strict quality control.

By repurposing a resource otherwise destined for disposal, Landema places this creation within its sustainable development approach. Asparagus absolute joins a palette of extracts made from agricultural and forestry co-products, transformed into premium ingredients for fine perfumery.

Olfactory family: tobacco.
With its animalic and tobacco-like nuances, this absolute brings depth and volume to the heart and base of a fragrance. It reveals a precious saline facet in marine compositions and blends harmoniously into oriental, floral, or leathery accords.

Production

Harvest

In the annual life cycle of the asparagus plant, this aerial part develops at the end of spring, after the last spears (the edible part we all know as asparagus) have been harvested. The cladodes enable the underground crowns to be nourished through summer photosynthesis, and also support seed production for species renewal. By late autumn, they dry out and are usually destroyed on-site by the growers. We collect this co-product through our long-standing local partner.

The raw material we use is certified with the Landes Sand-Grown Asparagus Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), ensuring both the origin and the quality of its cultivation. This local resource is traditionally dedicated to food production but is now also used to create an innovative natural extract for fine perfumery.

Since its founding, Landema has committed to responsible sourcing and sustainability, valorizing co-products from forestry, agriculture, and even its own distillations. When not reused, these by-products are treated as waste and destroyed. Landema gives them a second life, transforming them into new, high-quality ingredients for perfumery.

Manufacturing

The asparagus branches we use come from the Landes region. We work with a revalorized local resource that contributes to the development of an agricultural product emblematic of the area.

A multi-step extraction process
Solvent extraction – The freshly dried and ground asparagus branches undergo solvent extraction to yield a concrete.
Purification and washing – The concrete is then purified with ethanol to obtain an absolute.
Quality control – Each batch is rigorously checked and analyzed to ensure the consistent composition of our natural extract.
