Siam benzoin is derived from the gum-resin exuded by Styrax tonkinensis, a tree cultivated in the northern provinces of Laos and Vietnam. This cultivation is often integrated into traditional agricultural practices, particularly rain-fed rice farming, promoting responsible land management.

Harvesting the material:

Incision and exudation – The bark of the trees is incised between April and July, allowing the resin to slowly ooze out.
Natural hardening – Over several months, it gradually solidifies, forming amber-colored tears ready to be collected in winter.
Traditional use – Valued for centuries, benzoin is a sacred ingredient in many Asian cultures, used in incense, perfumery, and spiritual rituals.

Manufacturing
