Native to the Mediterranean basin, clary sage (Salvia sclarea) is a biennial plant that naturally grows on dry, sunny, limestone soils. Cultivated since antiquity, it is known for its large aromatic leaves and majestic floral spikes, tinged with pale purple. This species is particularly distinguished by its content of sclareol, a rare molecule used in the world of perfumery.

Its cultivation in organic farming is facilitated by its hardiness: low water requirements, resistance to pests, and suitability for well-draining soils, clary sage naturally finds its place in the sustainable agriculture of southern France.

Manufacturing

An essential oil extracted locally in France

We source our organic clary sage essential oil from French producer-distillers. The production follows a process that respects the plant and its aromatic components. Here are the key steps:

• Harvesting the flowering tops at maturity, at the peak of active compound concentration (usually between May and September).

• Steam distillation immediately after harvest, without solvents, in copper stills.

• Decantation to naturally separate the essential oil from the hydrosol.

• Filtration and analytical controls ensuring a pure oil that meets the strict standards of perfumery and aromatherapy.

This process results in an essential oil with a balanced olfactory profile, rich in linalyl acetate.

Application

A top ingredient for chypre and masculine perfumes

With its distinctive scent blending herbaceous notes, mentholated tobacco, and amber nuances, clary sage essential oil is highly prized in perfumery. It is particularly used:

• In chypre or aromatic accords, where it adds a dry, woody touch.

• As a base for masculine or unisex perfumes, for its powerful vegetal tones.

• As a substitute for certain animal notes in vegan compositions.

It is also valued as a natural fixative, extending the longevity of fragrances on the skin.

• Linalyl acetate (60.00 to 72.00%)
• Linalool (10.00 to 20.00%)
• Germacrene D (3.00 to 12.00%)
• Beta-caryophyllene (0.50 to 4.00%)
• Sclareol (0.10 to 1.00%)

These molecules are associated with effects traditionally recognized in diffusion, massage, or diluted application, within well-regulated practices.

Manual:

Ingrédient parfumant (Teneur maximale : 6 gouttes pour 10 ml de composition finale) ou à utiliser en diffusion, de préférence à froid, à l'aide d'un appareil approprié (Diffuser sur des durées n'excédant pas 20 minutes. Ne pas diffuser dans une chambre pendant la demi-heure précédant le coucher ou pendant le sommeil.. Assurer une bonne aération et ne pas diffuser dans des espaces confinés non ventilés. Ne respirer pas les huiles essentielles au-dessus de l’appareil de diffusion). Ne pas ingérer ni appliquer pur sur la peau. Tenir hors de portée des enfants. Ne pas utiliser pour les enfants de moins de 7 ans, les femmes enceintes et allaitantes, les personnes ayant des antécédents de troubles épileptiques ou convulsifs ainsi que chez les personnes allergiques aux huiles essentielles et extraits de plantes.
