Harvest

Rosa damascena, more commonly known as Damask rose, is an exceptional ancient variety, particularly appreciated in perfumery and natural cosmetics for the richness of its fragrance and the softness of its hydrosol. Originally from the Middle East, it was introduced to Europe in the Middle Ages and eventually settled in the Balkans, where it found ideal growing conditions.

Today, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Morocco are the main producing countries. Our organic Damask rose hydrosol comes from Bulgarian plantations in the renowned Valley of Roses. The rose bushes bloom only once a year, typically between mid-May and mid-June. The flowers are handpicked at dawn, when their fragrance is most intense thanks to the morning dew.

Yields are very low: between 3.5 and 5 tons of petals are needed to produce one hectare of harvest, making it a precious product. The flowers are distilled within 24 hours of picking to preserve all their aromatic and organoleptic qualities.

Manufacturing

We ensure complete control of the supply chain, from cultivation to extraction. Our fields and distillery are located in Bulgaria, in the heart of the Rose Valley. Here are the steps of the manufacturing process for our certified organic COSMOS Rose Damask Hydrosol:

• Manual harvesting of Rosa damascena flowers at dawn.

• Immediate transport to our distillery to prevent any fermentation.

• Steam distillation in a copper still.

• Separation of the oily phase (essential oil) and the aqueous phase (hydrosol).

• Filtration of the hydrosol to remove any impurities.

• Addition of a gentle preservative (Geogard) to ensure microbiological stability.

• Aseptic packaging in our workshops to preserve freshness and quality.

This process guarantees a 100% pure and natural hydrosol, without unnecessary additives, with a stable sensory profile and rigorous traceability.

Application

A precious floral water for all skin types

Damask rose hydrosol is a gentle and versatile floral water, prized for its skin tolerance and sensory qualities. It is incorporated into numerous cosmetic formulations for the daily care of the skin and hair.

Common cosmetic applications:

• Natural facial toner, suitable for sensitive, dry, or mature skin

• Ingredient in soothing lotions, creams, or body milks

• Aqueous phase in anti-aging or anti-redness facial emulsions

• Base for shine or detangling hair care for dry or brittle hair

• Refreshing and fragrant mist to spray directly onto the skin

Its refined floral fragrance and naturally rich composition in soft aromatic molecules (such as geraniol or citronellol) make it a preferred choice for delicate targeted care.
