Production
Harvest
Tea tree essential oil is derived from the distillation of the Australian plant Melaleuca alternifolia. Used medicinally for generations by Australian Aborigines, it was recognized as an antiseptic in the 1920s by the Chief Chemist of New South Wales. Over the years, its antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties have been discovered. Steam distillation of this oil has been practiced in Australia for nearly a century, but intensive cultivation for commercial purposes has only surged in the past two decades.
This species, endemic to Australia, is mainly found in northern New South Wales, where most commercial production occurs, covering about 3,000 hectares and involving nearly 100 producers. Over 80% of the world's tea tree essential oil comes from Australia, with nearly 90% exported to North America and Europe.
Manufacturing
Our tea tree essential oil is sourced from Australia, from a plantation certified by COSMOS and ECOCERT VERIFIED. This plantation, which has 20 employees, features its own nursery.
