Production
Harvest
Rosa damascena, or Damask rose, is an ancient variety of rose widely used in perfumery for its rich and complex aromas. Originating from the Middle East, it spread to the Balkans, where it is now primarily cultivated in Bulgaria, Turkey, and Morocco. The rose bushes bloom once a year, usually between April and June, and the flowers are hand-harvested at dawn to preserve their delicate fragrance. A single harvest of roses can yield between 3.5 and 5 tons of flowers per hectare, which are distilled or extracted within 24 hours of picking to maintain their quality.
Manufacturing
We have our own rose fields and distillation unit in Bulgaria. The flowers are carefully distilled to obtain the precious essential oil and the delicate hydrosol. This is the condensate that remains after water distillation, after the essential oil has floated to the surface.
As this floral water is particularly subtle and fragile, we add a touch of Geogard preservative to limit bacterial proliferation.
Our Damask rose hydrolate is COSMOS-certified organic.
