Alpha-pinene is part of the terpenes or monoterpenes family and is therefore recognized for having the following properties:

  • Lymphotonics, phlebotonics
  • Digestive stimulants
  • Atmospheric antiseptics
  • Corticoadrenal stimulants
  • Antiviral
  • Balsamic expectorants
  • Analgesic

In its pure state, an essential oil mainly composed of terpenes or monoterpenes can cause irritations whose intensity depends on the patient's cutaneous sensitivity. This irritation can be relieved by the local application of vegetable oil. Essential oils of turpentine and juniper can cause inflammations in the kidney in patients suffering from renal insufficiency.
