Harvest

The essential oil of Ho wood is extracted from the Chinese laurel (Cinnamomum camphora ct. linalol), a tree native to East Asia belonging to the Lauraceae family. Mainly cultivated in China, Taiwan, and Japan, this plant has a chemotype rich in linalool, a terpene alcohol highly sought after in perfumery and cosmetics.

The raw materials used for distillation include carefully selected bark, leaves, and wood. This choice reflects a more responsible approach to valuing forest resources. The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation, carried out locally using controlled processes. The result is a delicate essence whose fragrance resembles that of rosewood.

In light of the scarcity of rosewood — now protected — Ho wood has emerged as a very interesting alternative. Appreciated for its olfactory qualities similar to rosewood, it attracts professionals seeking noble ingredients that are both sensory and more respectful of ecosystems.

We collaborate with a local exporter based in China, who works closely with a network of small producers, harvesters, and distillers in the wooded regions of the southeast of the country.

The extraction process of our Ho wood essential oil follows these steps:

Harvest: the branches, bark, and leaves of the Chinese laurel are harvested manually.

Preparation of plant material: the wood is ground or fragmented to increase the surface area during distillation.

Steam distillation: this gentle method, performed on-site in stills, allows for the extraction of an essential oil rich in linalool without altering its olfactory properties.

Decantation and filtration: the essential oil is then decanted, filtered, and packaged in containers before being exported to France.

Quality control: each batch undergoes chromatographic analysis to ensure its compliance, particularly regarding its linalool content.

This process results in a pure, stable, and highly qualitative Ho wood essential oil.
