Harvest
Often called the “Florentine” iris, Iris pallida has long been associated with Tuscany in perfumery. The iris extract obtained by distillation is traditionally known as orris butter, named for its appearance at room temperature: a pale yellow paste, solid yet malleable, with a floral, woody, and fatty scent. This iconic raw material delivers the powdery, iris-like facets prized by fragrance houses.
Manufacturing
We offer a “Landes 20% irone” orris butter made from Iris pallida cultivated and harvested in France. The essential oil is obtained exclusively from fresh Iris pallida rhizomes. In parallel, together with local partners, we have established a fully mechanized cultivation process. An in-house method reduces the traditional maturation time (2–3 years) to just a few hours, while preserving the olfactory profile expected for perfumery.

Application
Main areas of application :
Flavor - Food Perfumery
Perfumery
Irisy, powdery, fresh root: a pillar of modern bases
Iris extracts contribute rich facets:
Top: cool earth and a subtle metallic touch that grounds the formula.
Heart: powdery/irisy, evoking violet—an elegant, luminous signature.
Base: dry, creamy woods with strong tenacity, amplified by the irone content of the Landes 20% grade.
Roles in composition
-
Backbone for powdery accords (floral, musky, aldehydic), enhancing longevity.
-
Texture smoothing: softens overly sharp bases (dry citrus/hesperidic, incisive green).
-
Olfactory bridges: an excellent binder between light woods (cedar, vetiver), cool florals, and modern musks.

Red-fruit enhancer
Orris butter may be used in flavorings in compliance with applicable regulations. Its floral/woody/fatty profile acts as a red-fruit booster.
