Harvest
Styrax is a large wild tree from the central mountains of Honduras. The balsam is obtained by tapping (locally called “Pica”) at the base of the trunk on mature trees (≥ 50 years old). The schedule is well established: Pica takes place from March to April; the balsam then flows from June to February. Collection is carried out once a month for each tree. The gathered gum resin appears as rounded “tears” and agglutinated masses, dark brownish in color. This balsamic material is prized in perfumery for its warm breadth and enveloping character.
Manufacturing
We work within a long-term partnership with a local supplier in Honduras to ensure a fully traceable supply of styrax balsam. Processing into a “rinsed” resinoid follows an extraction process tailored to this gum resin. The term “rinsed” denotes a purification step intended to deliver a homogeneous olfactory profile and a supply format compatible with B2B requirements (perfumery, flavors).

Application
Main areas of application :
Flavor - Food Perfumery
Perfumery
Styrax resinoid combines leathery–latex facets, bright white woods, and honeyed nuances. On opening, a varnish-like impression gives immediate impact, then the composition develops into a rounder, warmer balsamic backbone with excellent tenacity.
Olfactory roles in formulation
-
Structuring base: reinforces the cohesion and longevity of complex accords without saturating the top.
-
Texturizer: introduces a honeyed softness that rounds out overly dry bases.
-
Balsamic bridge: links woody, oriental, and leathery facets, adding warmth and depth.
Families & suitable pairings
-
Ambers & orientals
-
Leathery & woody
-
Aromatics & fougères
-
Warm florals
Food - Flavor
In flavor applications, Styrax resinoid is valued for its balsamic, warm notes. It is used at very low levels in sweet bases, where it rounds out and extends flavor profiles:
-
Dairy products
-
Bakery and confectionery
-
“Brown” flavors
Use is carried out in professional settings and in accordance with the instructions for use and dosage guidelines.
