Description

The unscented Tahiti Monoi macerate is a traditional infusion of Tiare flowers (Gardenia Tahitensis) in refined copra oil, made according to an ancestral process from French Polynesia. Tahiti Monoi holds an designation of origin, ensuring its authenticity and quality. The flower maceration, lasting 12 days in the oil, results in a product that meets strict standards, particularly the presence of at least 10 flowers per liter of oil.

Rich in saturated fatty acids such as lauric acid (45-50%) and myristic acid (17-20%), it provides nourishing and protective benefits to the skin and hair, with a low content of unsaturated fatty acids (20%).

Tahiti Monoi hydrates and regenerates the skin while providing softness and elasticity, and helps repair dry and damaged hair, giving it shine and flexibility.

Production

Harvest

The Tahiti Monoi is an oil infusion of Tiare flowers (Gardenia tahitensis), obtained through maceration in copra oil produced in Tahiti. This refined copra oil comes from a hot-pressing process of dried coconut kernels.

In the 1980s, most products claiming to contain Monoi were replicas made in various regions, especially in Asia. It was only in April 1992 that the remarkable properties of Tahiti Monoi were officially recognized with the award of an Appellation of Origin. This certification guarantees both authenticity and quality and is strictly limited to products manufactured in French Polynesia using traditional methods, with Gardenia tahitensis flowers—commonly known as “Tiare”—macerated in refined copra oil.

Tahiti Monoi represents a centuries-old tradition in French Polynesia. In the Tahitian language, "Monoi" refers to a “sacred oil.” Historically, its use was reserved for the Arii, the local nobility.

Today, it remains essential in the beauty rituals of Polynesian women, used as a massage oil, a hair conditioner, or even as a protective oil under the sun (although it does not filter UVA or UVB rays, it helps prevent skin dehydration).

Manufacturing

Tiare flowers, harvested just before full maturity, are placed in refined copra oil for a 12-day maceration period, following a specific protocol that requires a minimum of 10 flowers per liter of oil. After this stage, the macerate is left to rest for 24 hours, then filtered and enriched with an antioxidant. The resulting oil undergoes strict quality controls before being packaged in a sealed standard container, complete with a guarantee seal.

Cosmetic

Pictogram Cosmetics Cosmetics

Tahiti Monoi is characterized by its low content of unsaturated fatty acids—only about 20%.

Widely prized in cosmetics, Tahiti Monoi is valued for its hydrating and revitalizing effects on both skin and hair.

Skin care:

Tahiti Monoi helps maintain the skin’s natural hydration. Comparable to shea butter, its moisturizing effect gradually spreads and persists across the outer layers of the epidermis. Its peak effectiveness occurs around six hours after application, with beneficial levels still present up to eight hours later. It also supports skin firmness and elasticity while helping protect against external aggressors such as wind, sun, sea salt, and pollution.

Hair care:

Tahiti Monoi helps repair dry and damaged hair, restoring shine and making it easier to manage. By forming a protective, lubricating film, it brings softness and radiance to the hair while shielding it from external stressors.
