Description
Extracted from the resin of Styrax tonkinensis, Benzoin siam absolute comes from trees cultivated in Laos. After the bark is incised, the resin slowly oozes out and naturally hardens into amber tears, harvested in winter. This age-old process preserves the material’s rich olfactory profile.
Processed through a meticulous protocol—extraction, purification, and refinement—this absolute reveals balsamic, vanilla, and amber notes, highly valued in perfumery. It brings a comforting warmth, enhances oriental or floral accords, and acts as an excellent natural fixative.
A true sensory treasure, Siam benzoin stands out as an essential raw material for your fragrance creations.

Harvest
Siam benzoin is derived from the gum-resin exuded by Styrax tonkinensis, a tree cultivated in the northern provinces of Laos and Vietnam. This cultivation is often integrated into traditional agricultural practices, particularly rain-fed rice farming, promoting responsible land management.
Harvesting the material:
Incision and exudation – The bark of the trees is incised between April and July, allowing the resin to slowly ooze out.
Natural hardening – Over several months, it gradually solidifies, forming amber-colored tears ready to be collected in winter.
Traditional use – Valued for centuries, benzoin is a sacred ingredient in many Asian cultures, used in incense, perfumery, and spiritual rituals.
This artisanal process ensures exceptional olfactory quality, making benzoin a key ingredient in perfumed and aromatic creations.
Manufacturing
After the winter harvest, Siam benzoin gum-resin undergoes several processing steps to obtain highly pure extracts that meet the stringent requirements of the fragrance industry.
Extraction process
Cleaning – The raw resin is cleared of impurities and sorted according to its olfactory quality.
Grinding and extraction – The raw material is ground and subjected to solvent extraction to obtain a resinoid concentrated in aromatic compounds.
Purification and refinement – This resinoid is then purified to remove waxes and residual particles, yielding a fluid absolute rich in vanillin, a hallmark of Siam benzoin.
Quality control – Each batch is rigorously tested to ensure optimal levels of aromatic molecules, guaranteeing a raw material that meets industry standards.
Our processes result in a Siam benzoin absolute of exceptional quality, offering balsamic, vanilla, and amber notes that are ideal for perfumery.
