Description

Our organic refined camellia vegetable oil cosmos certified is a treasure of nature, extracted from the seeds of Camellia oleifera, a tree native to Asia. Through a cold-pressing process, this oil retains all of its natural benefits. It is particularly rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, including oleic acid (omega-9), which provides exceptional nourishing and moisturizing properties. It is also rich in vitamin E and squalene, known for their antioxidant and reparative qualities.

Its light, fluid texture absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy film, offering comfort and softness. This oil is ideal for dry and dehydrated skin, as well as for damaged or weakened hair, providing deep nourishment. It protects the skin from external aggressors, prevents signs of aging, and promotes healing. In hair care, it strengthens the hair fiber and hydrates the scalp.

Harvest

The camellia belongs to the genus of flowering plants in the Theaceae family. Native to Asia, this plant is now cultivated worldwide for its spectacular flowers, which vary greatly depending on the variety. In China, camellia is particularly widespread and intensively cultivated. It can be found in forests, shrubs, along waterways, and in the foothills of mountains, at altitudes between 500 and 1,300 meters.

Camellia oleifera is distinguished by its delicately scented white flowers. Its blooming period extends from October to November, coinciding with the maturity of the seeds harvested the previous year. The flowers fade once all the seeds have been collected, marking the end of a developmental cycle that spans through winter, spring, summer, and autumn. The seeds, ripened after a full year of growth, turn a brown color, unlike the still-green seeds.

The camellia tree, comparable in size to an olive tree, grows to a height of 5 to 10 meters. Its thin, upright trunks and branches form a rounded or oval crown, often shaped like a vase by pruning the lower branches.

In East Asia, the oil extracted from camellia seeds is known as the "beauty secret of the geishas." Prized for centuries, it has also been used in traditional Chinese medicine, particularly to relieve stomach ailments and burns.

Manufacturing

Chemical composition: Camellia oil is extracted from the seeds of Camellia oleifera through a cold-pressing process. Its fatty acid composition is as follows:

  • Palmitic acid (C16:0): 2 to 15%

  • Stearic acid (C18:0): 2 to 8%

  • Oleic acid (C18:1): 70 to 87%

  • Linoleic acid (C18:2): 4 to 15%

Particularly rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid (omega-9), camellia oil stands out for its nourishing and moisturizing qualities. Its composition, similar to that of olive oil, contains a high proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids, which helps limit its natural oxidation. Additionally, it contains a significant amount of vitamin E (about 0.15% alpha-tocopherol) and squalene (2-3%), both valued in cosmetics for their hydrating and antioxidant effects.
