Camphor belongs to the family of terpene ketones and is therefore recognized for having the following properties:

  • Myorelaxant
  • Mucolytic
  • Lipolytic
  • Cholagogue and choleric
  • Healing
  • Declogging
  • Antiparasitic
  • Antiviral

Camphor is also recognized as an antinociceptive.

At low doses, terpene ketones are sympathicotonic and stimulate the central nervous system. At high doses, terpene ketones are neurotoxic and narcotic. At high doses or repeated doses, molecules of this family are considered neurotoxic and abortifacient.
